The Pavilion at the site of Mountain Lodge on Mt Austin Rd
Once you have completed your hike up Mount Austin Road you will come to the Mountain Lodge site which now has a small car park, this pavilion and great views over the western side of Hong Kong including Lantau, Lamma and parts of Kowloon.
On your left hand side as you enter the car park you will see Victoria Peak Gardens, which you can access via the stone steps from the car par after you have possibly had a little rest in the pavilion and enjoyed the views.
Residents of Hong Kong see Victoria Peak Gardens as one of the greatest green open spaces in the city because public parks like Peak Gardens are very few in number around the city. You do need to plan ahead though if you are going to spend some time picnicking and relaxing in the gardens because there aren’t many shops nearby.
If you are going to the Victoria Peak first then you could buy some picnic supplies there before you wander down to the gardens or if you are coming from the Tram Terminus at the bottom of Mount Austin Road then you could stock up for your picnic there.
