Mount Austin Road Is A Great Hiking Trail in Hong Kong
Hiking up Mount Austin Road, via Mountain Lodge and Victoria Peak Gardens, is a great alternate way to enjoy the peak with its fantastic views over Hong Kong and the world-famous Victoria Harbour.
If you are interested in taking this route then you would start your hike from the Tram Terminus at the bottom of Mount Austin Road. Your walk will take you past Mount Austin Playground, a wonderful family-friendly park. You would then continue up Mount Austin Road through the exclusive residential area of Mount Austin towards Victoria Peak Gardens and Mountain Lodge. This route is very scenic and offers great views over Hong Kong but the road does get steeper and narrower, the closer you get to the top so you need to be conscious of any traffic and ensure that you stay safe.
As you near the top of Mount Austin Road, you'll come across Gate Lodge, which used to be the living quarters of the keeper of Mountain Lodge before the former Governor Of Hong Kong's summer house was demolished.
Shortly after you reach Gate Lodge, you will come across the Mountain Lodge viewing platform and Victoria Peak Gardens. To get to the peak from here is another 5 - 10 minutes walk.
