The Mountain Lodge Site Viewing Area Near Peak Gardens

This is the view from the viewing area at the former Mountain Lodge site, which is at the top of Mount Austin Road and was once where the Governor of Hong Kong had his summerhouse. On this site there is a large pavilion and also a small shop.

From here you can see parts of Lantau, Lamma and Kowloon as well as other islands off the coastline. Unlike some of the viewing platforms at Peak Tower, access to the Mountain Lodge site viewing area is free. If you are planning on visiting the former Mountain Lodge site then you might also want to bring a picnic to enjoy in Victoria Peak Gardens next door.

The peak gardens are unusual is Hong Kong for a few reasons. Firstly, public parks that have natural lawns are not common in Hong Kong, secondly Victoria Peak Gardens welcome pets, which is another uncommon thing on the island and the other thing that stands the gardens apart is simply the size of this green space. Made up of a series of inter-connected green lawns that are surrounded by woodlands and nature walks, the peak gardens are a great place to spend some relaxation time especially when the weather is good.
