The Views From The Mountain Lodge Viewing Platform
In this photo you can see the view over Hong Kong from the old Mountain Lodge site, which is next to Victoria Peak Gardens. The site is about 5 to 10 minutes walk from Victoria Peak, the highest viewing point in Hong Kong, and is significantly quieter and less touristy. More specifically, the views you can see from here are over the western side of Hong Kong Island, which includes Lantau, Lamma and parts of Kowloon.
To get to the Mountain Lodge site and Victoria Peak Gardens you can either go to Victoria Peak and then walk down to the gardens or you could hike up Mount Austin Road which although very steep is a relatively short hike through the sought after and very expensive residential area of Mount Austin.
When hiking to Victoria Peak Gardens via Mount Austin Road you will also pass Mount Austin Playground which is a great family friendly park with a children’s play area and then towards the top of Mount Austin Road, just before you reach the old Mountain Lodge site you will see the Renaissance-styled Gate Lodge which was built, originally, between 1900 and 1902 and served as the living quarters for the keeper of Mountain Lodge.
