The Matilda Charity Sedan Chair Race

Held ever year in the autumn, when the weather is not too hot, this anual fundraising event for the Matilda Hospital on The Peak is a great piece of fun and recreates some of the excitement that must have existed 100 years ago before The Peak tram was started.

The fundraising race consists of teams carrying sedan chairs running around the Peak on a 2.1km race starting from the hospital after which it is named.  Many groups enter teams into the race many from the expat community.  Clubs, corporations and schools are well represented and anyone is welcome to send a team.

Together with the race there is a Bazaar and combined they raise money for smaller or obscure charities which are not receiving funds from other major funders such as the Community Chest or Jockey Club.

The race was originally organized by staff from the Matilda hospital and still is associated with it, but the hospital does not receive any of the proceeds from the fundraising race.

Visit the official website for details of the race.

FOOD AND DINING

While often visited for the view the visitor should not forget that The Peak encompasses a wide range of dining options, from the casual to the sophisticated.  Within The Peak area are examples of many of Hong Kong's most authentic and distinctive styles, as well as international choices to fit all palates and budgets.
